Fast Mathematical Algorithms and Hardware Corporation is a Mathematical Technology company specializing in the development of efficient mathematical algorithms needed in industrial and technological environments.

Current theoretical advances, have opened the door to a large number of potentially important applications for a variety of Data processing tasks such as image and signal compression and parameter extraction (recognition, diagnostics, denoising, etc...) as well as for fast numerical computation needed for industrial design and simulations.

The founders of the company R.Coifman and V.Rokhlin (both Yale Professors) have originated a variety of algorithms addressing these tasks (including Fast Multipole Numerical algorithms as well as Wavelet-Packets adapted waveform analysis methodologies).

These are currently being used by the FBI for Fingerprint Image compressions, by Lockheed Martin Corporation in developing ATR methods and by Boeing Corp and Hughes Corp . for efficient Electro Magnetic Scattering simulations.

FMA&H together with Digital Diagnostic Corporation have developed signal processing software and High quality image compression tools for technical imaging (medical, radar, geological, etc...)

Application software includes:

  1. Compression software for CD quality audio, at compression rates of 4-6.

  2. Audio denoising software for music restoration and enhancement, having the potential for realtime communication denoising.

  3. High quality image compression suite of algorithms, including the recent FBI Fingerprint standard, enhanced JPEG, Wavelet and wavelet-packet adapted coding (patented) leading to good quality compressions of about 50 for grey level 512x512 images.

  4. Various video compression codes, including software only real time video compression for video surveillance and communication (at 15-30 frames per second)

  5. Image and video denoising and discrimination code, currently being used on Echoplanar NMR images as well as radiation and synthetic aperture radar.

  6. Classification and discrimination algorithms for diagnostic and feature extraction,(including a software toolkit for automatic diagnostic feature extraction)

  7. Fast numerical codes for Scientific and engineering tasks, including acoustic and electromagnetic computations.

FMA&H serves as a technology transfer bridge by providing consulting services, customizing and adapting technologies to specific needs and by licensing and designing special purpose software. We currently have an international network of about 50 associates who are world leaders in their respective fields.

In 1996 we have received the DARPA award for sustained excellence ,in 1998 FMA&H was selected by Lockheed Martin as a top small business contractor. In 97 and 1998 FMA&H was a "fast 50" company in Connecticut (as selected by Deloit&Touche)

FMA&H is collaborating with DDC ,and Pegasus Corporation on development and marketing various wavelet based compression codes for Telemedecine . Our wavelet compression has been FDA approved for radiology and is being used by Applicare Corp.

We are also developing video based applications for Telemedecine with Simplex Corp. who is marketing our video codes for Surveillance products.

FMA&H has developed an extensive toolkit for Seismic data processing,in particular a variety of customized data compression algorithms ,these are currently being used by Amoco corporation ,and are being broadly marketed by GeoEnergy Corp.

Specific Compression products.

  1. Seismic data compression:

    Wavelet Compression with a variety of coding options customized for land or marine data. These are high quality fast tunable codes .

    Local trigonometric basis codes built for speed of postprocessing operations

    These codes are 2,3,4 dimensional with direct block retrieval.

    Marketed by GeoEnergy Corp. these codes are broadly used by Amoco.

  2. Fingerprint image compression.

    We have a WSQ code conforming to the FBI standard . (developed by the FBI and Scotland Yard with our help).

  3. Wavelet based image compression.

    This suite of algorithms have been optimized for speed and quality for the Intel® Pentium™,by DDC FMA&H and Pegasus Corp. Some have been FDA approved for Telemedecine applications.

  4. Video Codes.

    A number of fast software only video wavelet compression codes have been developed with DDC for surveillance applications ,they are currently being introduced by Simplex Corp,for remote monitoring and teleradiology.
